EASTHAM BOARD OF ASSESSORS
Minutes of December 8, 2010 Meeting
Doreen Cahill called the meeting of the Board of Assessors to order at 12:15 p.m. in the Timothy Smith Room.
Present: Assessors Cahill and Avery, Deputy Assessor Gail McAleer, and Field Appraiser Belinda Clarey.
OLD BUSINESS:
The Board VOTED unanimously to APPROVE the minutes of the October 28, 2010 and November 15, 2010 meetings.
NEW BUSINESS:
Deputy Assessor Update:
Gail McAleer indicated the Collector’s office is continuing clearing up outstanding uncollectible boat excise bills from 1995 – 2009 and requests the Board’s authorization to abate them. The Board of Assessors VOTED unanimously to APPROVE the abatement of the boat excise bills listed in the schedules as requested by the Collector.
Gail McAleer reviewed the status of the FY11 abatement applications. The Board has 90 days from the filing of an abatement to act on it. The deadline for the Board’s action on the majority of the remaining abatements is the end of January. Most of the properties that have applications pending have been field reviewed, however, there are several parcels where the owners have not made the properties available for review. Ms. McAleer recommended continuing to hold these abatements until they can be inspected and the data verified.
Attorney William Riley appeared before the Board to discuss the FY11 real estate abatement application for the property located at 225 Sparrow Road owned by the Estate of Marianne Simmel. Attorney Riley submitted additional documentation which, in his opinion, supported the assertion the property was over valued. After discussion Attorney Riley agreed to submit additional information to the Board at their request.
EXECUTIVE SESSION:
Doreen Cahill made a motion to convene Executive Session per M.G.L. c.30A, Sec. 21.
Gordon Avery seconded.
Roll call vote was taken to enter Executive Session at 12:30 p.m.
Cahill-yes, Avery-yes
The Board exited Executive Session at 2:10 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 2:10 p.m.
